Civic Education Centre in Ústí nad Labem (COV.UL) works at the Department of Political Science and Philosophy (KPF) of the Faculty of Arts of the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. The main mission of COV.UL is focused on both formal and non-formal education. In formal education, it focuses on supporting pupils in developing civic and global competences, developing civic self-awareness, and supporting educators in predicting the educational needs of their pupils in the socio-economic, civic and personal areas. In the area of non-formal education, the Centre then focuses on open educational events for the general public based on research of conditions and needs in various areas of the Ústí Region, especially in the areas of civic-political participation, political representation, social pathology, economic processes, extremism and other topics.
Why we were created
Nowadays, the issue of civic self-awareness and increased participation of citizens in decision-making processes in public life is becoming increasingly important. The issue is especially important in the Ústí nad Labem Region with its high unemployment rate, high number of persons with only basic education, high incidence of socially excluded localities and, on the other hand, low interest in education as one of the possible ways to solve the difficult social and economic situation.
Our mission
- research activities in the areas of civic-political participation, political representation, social pathology, economic processes, extremism and other topics;
- organization of formal education events for civic education;
- organization of non-formal education events for the application sector;
- assisting students of the Faculty of Arts of UJEP in engaging in scientific and research activities in the framework of seminar and final works.
